Making Ornamental Trimmings Instructions

Image of a fabric bowOrnamental trimmings cab be added to most soft furnishings to enhance the look and add a personal touch. Bows, rosettes and decorative tails can liven up plain pelmets, valances, bed drapes and swags and tails. Smaller versions can be stitched onto tie backs to coordinate the effect.

They can be made to match, contrast or coordinate with the main fabric, or perhaps to accentuate a particular shade in a multi-coloured design.

There is no rigid rule for the size of the ornamental trimmings, but the larger they are the more of a dramatic effect they will make. For an idea of how big to make the trimmings, cut out the shape in paper and pin it in position. The paper can be easily trimmed until the required effect is achieved.

Braid, fringing, ribbon and covered buttons can be added to the ornamental trimmings to coordinate them with the rest of the soft furnishings in any room.
